Tardy/Absence Excused or Unexcused

Just to clarify about the tricky subject of whether a tardy or absence is excused or unexcused, a portion of our NM Student Handbook is pasted below:

  • Excused absences/tardies include: illness, observance of a religious holiday, death in the immediate family, family emergency, situations beyond the control of the student, circumstances that cause reasonable concern to the parent/guardian for the student’s safety or health, or other reason as approved by the principal.
  • Unexcused absences/tardies include: babysitting, cold weather, employment, missing the bus, need for sleep or rest, car problems, faulty morning alarm (oversleeping), hair appointments, shopping, term paper work, and senior pictures.
