What is Norse Education Foundation

The Norse Education Foundation funds go directly to benefit the school. We want to create a sustainable source of funding for generations to come, and so NEF is housed at the Muskegon Community Foundation and managed by financial advisers. NEF has added wonderful scholarships to our program to help support students.  The Dorothy Wilson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2024 awarding $10,000 for a student headed for a 4-year program and $5,000 non-traditional scholarship for a student headed into a technical/trades program.  Also along with the scholarships, NEF has also started contributing to students KickStart to Career bank accounts with the Dorothy Wilson Scholarship.  NEF matches the beginning contribution of $50 for all Kindergarten accounts and $10 annually thereafter.

Our Mission

The mission of NEF is to enhance the educational experiences of our students by funding excellence in teaching and learning beyond what is provided through operating funds.

The Norse Education Foundation is sustained and advised by supporters of North Muskegon Public Schools. Our advisory board is made up of school staff, parents, alumni, and community members who raise funds and make spending decisions for the Foundation.

The current board of NEF is:  Carolyn Nedeau, Mary Moulton, Jamie Lang, Marisa Peterson, Stephanie Dye, Kimberly Senkow, Amy Silvis, and Kristie Hall

The board advises the Norse Education Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, established to enrich the educational experiences of students at North Muskegon Public Schools by funding excellence in teaching and learning beyond what is provided through operating funds.  Each year we spend approximately 5% of the fund balance, while investing the rest of the fund's income back into the fund to grow and support NMPS in perpetuity.

The Norse Education Foundation has two grant cycles each school year.  The NEF volunteer grant committee decides who will receive funding based on how well the request fits within the NEF mission.

Stay in touch: Like our Facebook page, sign up for our email list by emailing us at nef@nmps.net, and visit our website often.

Make a contribution: Support educational excellence at North Muskegon Public Schools by visiting our donation page at the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, or by simply sending us a check at NMPS. Donations are tax-deductible and will be deposited into our endowment.

Leave Legacy: While 70% of us give charitably during our lifetimes, only 10% leave a gift through their estate.

The impact you’re making now can continue, long after you’re gone. When you leave a legacy, future generations will know what was important to you. If we all leave just 5% see what can happen.

If everyone leaves 5% (or more) of their estate to a Foundation fund, over $680 million will be invested in Muskegon County by 2055!

Leaving a legacy is not just for the wealthy. If you consider the value of your home, retirement and savings accounts, life insurance, etc., you may be surprised how quickly it adds up!

Leaving a gift can be as simple as changing a retirement account or life insurance beneficiary designation. Or you can work with an attorney to update your will or trust.

The Community Foundation for Muskegon County (CFMC) is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, so you receive the maximum tax deduction for your gift. If you have questions or need more information, please contact the Community Foundation for Muskegon County and they will be happy to help.
